Rodney Clancy

Rodney has a strong knowledge of choral singing, solo singing, brass instruments and conducting.  He has worked as an international choral adjudicator and workshop clinician. He also worked at the Sydney Opera House for the Australian International Music Festival for many years.  He lives in Canberra and has worked at the Young Regional School of Music as Voice and Brass tutor as well as the conductor of the Choir of the Southern Cross (now Hilltops Choir Inc.) and also the conductor of the Young Town Band, Tuggeranong Valley Band, Forest National Chamber Orchestra, Canberra Wind Ensemble, With One Voice Gungahlin Choir, ACT singers Inc., ANU Music Society Concert Band, and many more.

Rodney started singing in primary school under the direction of Mrs Joan Carey. Then under direction from Michael Politi, he also started learning conducting from Mark Shiell.  He spent his high school years learning and playing the trombone, French horn, tuba and Euphonium in concert bands and orchestras.  Rodney studied Business Management and Marketing at university, followed by studying accountancy at Charles Sturt University. In Canberra he was able to join, sing and conduct many choirs or bands with up to 9 groups a week being on his schedule.

Over time Rodney was able to learn trumpet and conducting during which time he appeared as a guest lecturer in conducting at the ANU School of Music.  As a freelance conductor in the Canberra region Rodney was invited to be the chorus master and international choral adjudicator at the Australian International Music Festival.

In his free time he enjoys train travel and looking after his young family.
