Athena Litis is an accomplished musician and educator who strongly believes that music should be accessible to everyone.
She graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Music Education, and also holds an Associate Diploma in Piano (A.MusA). Athena obtained her Australian Kodaly Certificate after studying in Brisbane and has represented the Perth branch as a guest presenter. She recently returned to UWA to undertake postgraduate studies and hopes to complete these in the future.
Athena is the Director of Music at a Boys’ College in Perth and has spent the majority of her career teaching secondary classroom Music and directing ensembles. Her experience ranges from directing choirs and vocal ensembles, to string orchestras and rock bands and has witnessed their success locally, nationally and internationally. Athena has toured throughout Europe and the USA, leading students to win Gold at the Worldstrides Music Festival in New York. Each year she is invited to examine WACE Music students in addition to adjudicating a variety of Choral and Instrumental festivals.
Athena has a fond love of teaching the piano and is also an experienced piano accompanist. She has performed as a solo pianist winning a number of competitions and has delighted in sharing her repertoire with residents in Aged Care as part of her commitment to give back to the community. Athena has enjoyed singing in the WASO chorus and continues to perform at both corporate and private functions around Perth as a pianist and vocalist.
Athena’s mission is to instil and foster a lifelong love of music into people from diverse backgrounds, creating stronger communities where individuals can joyfully explore their full human potential.
