WOV Redfern 2020/21
In 2020 we were completely self-sufficient operating with members’ fees and donor contributions only. Our role in community is a soft entry point for vulnerable community members to reduce social isolation, build skills, experience the joy of singing and reduce food insecurity. We are self-managed by a committee of community volunteers and choir members. During Covid we offered free singing lessons to Choir members and this was the most positive offering from our project. Mary Kiani delivered engaging and very enjoyable lessons commencing 23 July 2020 at Redfern Community Health Centre. This work is ongoingly funded by the Choir. It keeps people
connected and supported.
This was a highly successful strategy and one that we will continue until we can reconvene face to face. Members were thrilled to be able to meet with Mary (our conductor) at Redfern Health Centre for a face-to-face lesson. We had to wait until late July for our partner Health to feel comfortable allowing this activity. However, once we got the green light it kicked off well.
