Melbourne Sings – Larking About Event

Fiona at Larking About has invited the Melbourne Singers to take part in a special event – ‘Singing Under The Dome!’

The event takes place at the Latrobe Reading Room (The Dome) in the State Library and is this first of its kind – never before has The Dome been celebrated in this extraordinary way! This is a great opportunity to celebrate both a magnificent space as well as the joy of community singing.

When: Friday 19th October, 7 – 9pm
Where: Latrobe Reading Room, State Library, 328 Swanston St, Melbourne

Sydney Sings – Choir Expo 2012

Why not take part in the Choir Expo 2012 Workshop Day, Sydney Singers?

Each participant attends 3 workshops in different choral styles during the day, working with acclaimed choir directors.  Aside from participating in this great workshop, there will be a performance at the end of the event, which will not only feature you and your fellow singers, but also several guest choirs and solo artists.

St Kilda Sings Soirée

All family and friends of St Kilda Sings are invited to a special soirée showcasing a selection of fine choral music.

Please join them for a performance and supper.

When: Monday 17th September, 7pm
(choristers – please arrive at 6.15pm for a warm up and don’t forget your t-shirts!)
Where: Salvation Army Chapel, 12B Chapel St, St Kilda
Supper: Please bring a small plate to share or a bottle of something soft. Tea and coffee will be available too!

Sydney Sings Soirèe a Success!

Congratulations to the Sydney Singers for Tuesday nights Soirèe!  Who would have guessed that this was your first ever public performance?!

You’ve also featured in the Sydney Morning Herald (again!) – you can read the article here, and it can be found on page 3 in the newspaper.

Don’t forget to check Facebook for some photos and a video of you singing ‘I Am Australian’  If anyone has any photos they’d like to display, feel free to share them on the With One Voice Facebook page.

Hume Sings Gets Banksia Gardens to ‘Imagine’

A huge congratulations to the Hume Singers for a fantastic performance at the Banksia Gardens Community Centre AGM.  Well done on leading a mini-workshop with all the attendees – ‘Imagine’ sounded great with everyone singing along!  The evening was capped off by a great supper provided by the Turkish Womens’ Association.

As we’re sure you’ll agree, the community centre is a really inspiring space and is complemented perfectly by an exceptionally happy and friendly team of staff.  Why not visit Banksia Gardens and check out some of their programs?

Deakin Sings Breaks Records!

With the partnership of Deakin University, we proudly launched Deakin Sings on August 27th with over 90 staff and students in attendance!

Enthusiastically led by conductor Adrian Portell, the group quickly found themselves establishing new friendships and connections – you can see by the photos and video that a great time was had by all.

We’re looking forward to seeing the choir grow – perhaps a staff/student sing-off is on the cards!

Sing Your Own Wagner Chorus

More Than Opera is hosting a series of Sing Your Own Wagner Choruses workshops- where choristers come together to sing the infamous Wagner Chorus!  Led by internationally renowned conductor Dr David Kram, they invite you to participate in this special event which has been specially arranged to suit community choirs, featuring new singable translations, easy keys and simplified vocal parts.

Aside from participating in these fantastic sessions, there will be a performance featuring soprano Rebecca Oke on October 14.

The participant’s fee includes four rehearsals from 2 – 5pm on
September 23
September 30
October 7
October 14

You can attend as many rehearsals as you choose and music and MP3s are available for downloading from the More Than Opera’s web site to those who register, or they can supply this for $10.

Benefits include:

  • Choir training led by  (international conductor who has conducted Wagner in Germany, France and Australia),
  • Enjoyable repertoire, including Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin, Pilgrims Chorus from Tannhäuser, Chorale and Finale from The Mastersingers.
  • Singers registering for the event are able to download the sheet music and an MP3 highlighting their choral part and will be given additional support,
  • The arrangements are suitable for trained choristers as well as beginners who have a good ear.
