Homeless Persons Week 2012: 6th August to12th August
August 10, 2012
Homeless Persons’ Week 2012 will be held from Monday 6th August to Sunday 12th August, with the theme of ‘Homing in on the real issues of homelessness: to understand why we are homeless, we need to see why we become homeless.’
Mission Australia will be hosting a series of nationwide Winter Sleepouts, raising money for Australian’s who are homeless this winter. If you can’t make the Winter Sleepout, why not host your own – perhaps in the office, in your backyard or in a classroom! Mission Australia has a great list of fundraising alternatives, including giving up your favourite food or drink for a week and keeping the money aside from what you’d usually spend on your treat…or even having a PJ Day! There was an instance where a participant wore her PJs everyday for a month to fundraise!
Homelessness Australia has published a Victorian events calendar, as well as a list of events in NSW and ACT for a full guide to getting involved.
Mission Australia also has a range of resources -including a factsheet on homelessness.
All money raised from Winter Sleepout will go to Mission Australia homeless services located across the country to help transform the lives of Australians who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
