      Frequently Asked Questions

What is Try a Choir Week?

Try a Choir Week is an initiative by Creativity Australia to get more people singing together! Creativity Australia is a national charity which runs the With One Voice choirs. We aim to reduce loneliness by creating inclusive community choirs which are accessible to everyone.

In 2025 we held the first ever Try a Choir Week as a promotional experiment and it was a huge success - we had over 4,000 website visitors, 275 enquiries, 98 choir visitors and 84 new choir members. So in 2026 we're doing it again and we are inviting more choirs to participate.  Let's get more Australians singing together!

How do I participate in Try a Choir Week?

Use the Find a Choir Map to find a choir near you and come along to a choir near you between 24-28 August 2026! RSVP via the email/link listed to let the choir know you're coming so they have enough chairs and cups of tea!

Do I need to register to attend?

RSVPs are strongly encouraged but not required. This helps the choir know how many people to expect, so we have enough chairs and cups of tea. Click on the link on the Find a Choir Map to register your interest!

Is it free to participate in Try a Choir Week?

Yes! It's free to come and visit a choir as part of Try a Choir Week. Choirs will usually ask for a contribution in the form of a donation or fees if you choose to keep coming along. Please talk to your local choir about their ongoing fees.

Do I need to audition or prove I can sing?

It depends on the choir! The purpose of Try a Choir Week is to just give it a go. You can use the Choir Map to find out if your local choir requires singers to audition. We believe everyone can enjoy the benefits of singing together, and there’s a choir out there for everyone!

What if I can't read music?

No worries! Most community choirs are aimed at beginners and don't expect your to read sheet music. Some will even provide vocal tracks to help you learn at home.

Yes! All visitors are very welcome.
